Mom makes beautiful quilts. Just the other day I showed one
of them to visitors. She has generously given many to family members.

Decorating
I remember accompanying Mom on trips to our house in
Germantown before we moved in. She did a lot of painting and wallpapering there
and elsewhere, and has a talent for decorating.
Cooking
- Three bean salad, Watergate salad
- Sunday dinners
- Making the meal of choice for birthdays. Mom served chocolate milk, chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, and chocolate ice cream on my birthday (I think my siblings encouraged me to request this.)
- Pies and fudge at holidays

Saturdays
Oh, how I love the smell of the beans baking in the oven. Mom makes really yummy baked beans. It was a Saturday fare...baked beans, hotdogs and brown bread. Yum! It's still special to me when she makes them. The lid broke and was repaired at some point. That's one of my memories....THAT beanpot with the repaired lid.
Penmanship
I have always thought that Mom has such nice penmanship. She says that it's not so nice anymore...that her hand shakes. I still think it's as nice as ever.... :)

Two Sides of Laughter
I can remember how nice it was to hear Dad and Mom laughing so hard at skits on the Carol Burnett Show. This was when we lived in Hamill, South Dakota. Our bedroom was beside the livingroom, but we could not see the TV or to where Dad and Mom were sitting. We would sometimes get out of bed and lie by the bedroom door to hear whatever it was that was making them laugh. Such a good memory of laughter...
The other side? We weren't allowed to watch... It was past our bedtime... Oh well, we survived...

Special "Sacrifice"
Mom took the opportunity to make a trip to Brazil to visit us. Chris was coming down, so she traveled with him. I was SO happy that she would finally be able to see where we were living and experience the work we were doing. For me, it was a very special sacrifice that she made. Thank you, Mom.
