-Of course, with my branch of the family being among the younger ones, I don't have many childhood memories of Joyce. I do remember looking at my Mom's snapshots and admiring the wedding pictures of Joyce and Ron - all those bridesmaids!
-No one else I remember in our rather "secular" family had gone into an active religious life (and few have since, aside from her immediate family).
-I remember Joyce has a great laugh and a lovely singing voice.
-I don't think anyone else in the family had a larger family, except Aunt Delema.
-I remember hearing about living in a tiny town in So. Dakota. That seemed so adventurous and "exotic" to me at the time -especially since I had never been outside of northern New England then.
-One story from those years I always found amusing. Apparently your family was planning a trip to the Badlands and one kids was overheard talking about the upcoming trip to the "naughty-lands"!
-I remember hearing how skilled at many crafts Joyce is - needlepoint, quilting and even refinishing furniture. (Th craft "gene" is prevalent in our family, but, alas, seems to have skipped me!)
-I have a memory of being with Joyce and my mom at a rummage sale or thift shop in No. Conway and I had my first baby, Nathan, with me - he was 5 or 6 months old at the time. Suddenly, nate thre up his formula. I totally panicked - never having this happen before. Joyce just calmly asked a clerk for some paper towels - problem solved! Obviously, she was far more experienced at this mother stuff than I!
-I remember a Halloween party at Nancy's - probably 1984 - just before we moved to Oregon. Joyce was visiting then and dressed up as an old lady - maybe with a mop for a wig? Nancy's Halloween parties were fun. I only went to one or two, because we were mostly living too far away, but I always enjoyed seeing pictures of the parties.
-Our lives nearly intersected a few years ago, because Steve & I knew we wanted to leave Florida and we actually scouted out the Bristol TN/VA area! Then we decided to move all the way back home, to be nearer most of the family, but it's nice to think we would have had some family nearby, had we decided to move there.
-HAPPY 80th, JOYCE, AND MANY MORE!!!
Love, Cousin Ginny (Bragg) Potter
