Imagine a family of nine with only one bathroom. When we lived in South Dakota, that's how it was. I remember following Mom into the bathroom as she was fixing something (don't recall what) and I wanted to watch. I sat back on the toilet thinking the lid was down - it was not. I ended up with a very wet rear end. Mom turned around and saw what happened. I can still see her laughing (although I was not amused at the time!).
I remember sitting in a rocking chair watching Mom iron in the laundry room. I had just after finished drinking a glass of water and was listening to the water slosh around in my stomach. Even Mom heard it.
When we lived in Oreland, I came down the stairs a little too quickly and slipped near the bottom. I fell hard on my back and had the wind knocked out of me. I remember laying on the couch with my head in Mom's lap recovering.
I remember Mom playing the piano and Lucille and I were doing dishes. We started singing along to the music, making it up as we went along. Mom kept playing the piano and laughing.
